The Sandpipers were in schools this week, this time visiting Paindane School. Our topic focused on sharks and rays in Mozambique and their ecological importance. We also started working on a mural featuring different fish species and their local translations. This week, we got to use the plastic recycling machine and had a great time turning collected plastic bottles into creative keychains.
After being in schools last week, the Lemons returned to fieldwork, kicking off with our final transect surveys which we will miss heaps. On Thursday we had a bittersweet final day at Paindane fisheries, which was as busy as ever but still good fun.
Friday was the final day of fisheries. We had a chill final day hanging out at guinjata, as there were no fish due to bad weather. Afterwards, we grabbed some lunch at a local spot and did a beach clean on the walk back home! Later, we headed up to the plastic machine and created some keychains out of recycled plastic!
On Saturday the whole group did a final fun dive at Caves before heading home to pack our bags. It was an emotional week as we said goodbye to team members like Lucy and to Jangamo Bay itself. We’re going to miss each other and the team a lot, but we’re already talking about future plans to meet up and hopefully come back to Moz one day!
