Júlia Sitoe

Júlia Sitoe is our marine biologist snd has a particular passion for marine biodiversity, fish taxonomy, and marine conservation. She is driven by a curiosity to better understand the diversity of marine life and by the belief that scientific research plays a fundamental role in protecting our oceans. Over the past five years, Júlia has worked across a wide range of marine conservation and research initiatives in Mozambique and internationally. Her experience includes fisheries research aboard the R/V Dr Fridtjof Nansen; coral molecular biology with the COREBIOM Project in collaboration with the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (Italy); biodiversity monitoring; museum collection curation; environmental impact assessments; and marine conservation outreach. Alongside her research, Júlia is deeply committed to science communication having designed and delivered ocean literacy programmes for schools and local communities. She is committed to advancing marine science in Mozambique and contributing to a better understanding and conservation of the rich biodiversity of the Western Indian Ocean.
