Five weeks in Jangamo Bay, Mozambique, learning the full stack of marine conservation work we run year-round: coral reef surveys, megafauna and bioacoustics work, fisheries research, ocean trash research, swimming lessons and ocean-literacy work in the local schools.
Who it’s for
University students studying a marine or biology-related subject, dissertation/thesis students, recent graduates, and serious career-changers who want real field experience and career advancement. You need your PADI Open Water before the expedition start date – if you don’t have this you can come a week early and complete it with us in Mozambique. You can get further qualifications during the expedition if you’d like.
A typical week
In your first week with us you’ll complete intense training in all our project areas, both theory and practical, and then spend the following four weeks rotating around the projects, building your experience in each area. A typical week could look like:
- Mornings: coral reef transects, fisheries catch data collection or ocean literacy work in schools.
- Afternoons: data entry, beach cleans or painting at the schools.
- Saturday mornings: fun or qualification dives.
- Saturday afternoons: swimming lessons as part of our inclusive ocean governance project.
- Sundays free for surfing, extra diving, seahorse safari, fish tagging or additional PADI certifications.
